brochures from FEMA to distribute.

out of the Senate. Both California Senators supported us on
this. Jenny Oropeza was defeated in her campaign. The

Shelia Bordeaux reported their next meeting is August 23rd
at 9509. We will be having a training class on death/dying and
working with our members who have lost loved ones during the
war. The Sept 14th meeting at 9511 will be a
training class on gangs. In Verizon, the company is doing home
visits to members exercising their rights under FMLA. Thanks to
Local 9000 and 9573, we have a generic flyer locals can give to
their members if a manager makes a home visit. Once again we
are having issues with the HR Manager and Confidentiality in
Verizon. In AT&T the trend is to deny the disabilities of
pregnant members. Pay close attention that it is not counted as
a chargeable disability. Having District 9 MAP meeting August 5th
at 2 PM.
LAP Summer school starts August 5th,
Riviera Hotel at 6 PM.
Health & Safety
Committee: O. T. Thomas reported telecommunications
problems are still the same. Has the sources and resources to
confront the company on these issue. We’re getting into a
maintenance role in San Diego, constantly preaching that safety
works. Did a Health & Safety overview at 9000 last night and
will do the same for any local. Next meeting is tomorrow at the
District Office, 10:00 AM.

PM. Meetings are always held on the 4th Thursday of
the month.

Term hiring going on with contracting out. U-verse big issue
with rationalization. Avaya GPS is a big issue on the east
coast. Legacy T or S co-mingling – watch out for a big issue
set-up for ’09 bargaining.
Verizon: James Dudley
reported the same issues as AT&T but Verizon ahead of the game.
A rally “Tear Down the Wall” held recently was a big success.

been identified Many fiber to the prim questions. Bargaining
Committee is meeting tomorrow.

combining pensions that are now jointly operated.
